There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is banned. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that features numerous conveniences accompanying the casino, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
