The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is somewhat of a risk at the moment, so you could envision that there would be very little affinity for going to Zimbabwe’s gambling dens. In fact, it seems to be operating the opposite way around, with the atrocious market conditions creating a bigger ambition to gamble, to attempt to discover a quick win, a way out of the problems.

For the majority of the citizens living on the tiny local money, there are two dominant forms of gaming, the national lotto and Zimbet. Just as with almost everywhere else in the world, there is a national lotto where the probabilities of hitting are extremely small, but then the prizes are also unbelievably high. It’s been said by market analysts who study the situation that many do not buy a card with the rational belief of profiting. Zimbet is built on one of the local or the English football leagues and involves determining the results of future games.

Zimbabwe’s gambling dens, on the other foot, cater to the incredibly rich of the state and sightseers. Up till a short time ago, there was a considerably substantial vacationing industry, centered on nature trips and trips to Victoria Falls. The economic anxiety and associated crime have cut into this trade.

Amongst Zimbabwe’s gambling halls, there are two in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has five gaming tables and one armed bandits, and the Plumtree gambling den, which has just the slot machine games. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has only slot machines. Mutare has the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, the pair of which offer gaming tables, slot machines and video poker machines, and Victoria Falls houses the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, the two of which have slot machines and tables.

In addition to Zimbabwe’s casinos and the previously mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is considerably like a parimutuel betting system), there are also 2 horse racing complexes in the country: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the second municipality) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Since the economy has contracted by more than 40 percent in recent years and with the connected deprivation and bloodshed that has cropped up, it is not well-known how healthy the tourist business which is the foundation for Zimbabwe’s gambling dens will do in the next few years. How many of the casinos will carry through until things improve is basically unknown.
