The act of living in Zimbabwe is something of a risk at the moment, so you could imagine that there would be little affinity for visiting Zimbabwe’s gambling halls. Actually, it seems to be functioning the other way around, with the desperate market conditions leading to a larger ambition to play, to attempt to find a fast win, a way out of the problems.

For the majority of the people living on the meager nearby money, there are two common styles of gambling, the state lotto and Zimbet. As with practically everywhere else on the globe, there is a state lottery where the probabilities of hitting are remarkably low, but then the winnings are also very high. It’s been said by market analysts who understand the subject that most don’t buy a card with the rational belief of hitting. Zimbet is built on either the national or the English soccer divisions and involves determining the results of future matches.

Zimbabwe’s gambling halls, on the other foot, look after the incredibly rich of the country and vacationers. Until a short while ago, there was a considerably large tourist industry, centered on safaris and visits to Victoria Falls. The economic woes and associated violence have cut into this trade.

Amongst Zimbabwe’s gambling halls, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has 5 gaming tables and slots, and the Plumtree gambling den, which has only slot machines. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has only slots. Mutare has the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, both of which have table games, slots and electronic poker machines, and Victoria Falls has the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, each of which offer slot machines and tables.

In addition to Zimbabwe’s gambling dens and the aforestated mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is quite like a parimutuel betting system), there are also two horse racing complexes in the state: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the second city) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Seeing as that the market has diminished by more than 40% in the past few years and with the associated deprivation and crime that has arisen, it is not understood how well the tourist business which supports Zimbabwe’s casinos will do in the near future. How many of the casinos will survive till things improve is basically not known.
