There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is prohibited. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that contains a number of comforts aside from the gambling den, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight table games.
